When Inflection AI was founded, the company set out to create a personal AI for everyone. Inflection AI trained one of the best LLMs and built Pi.

Pi is designed to be a personal AI that is empathetic, helpful, and safe, and we’ve remained focused on emphasizing emotional intelligence alongside cognitive abilities.

In addition to building a best-in-class model with IQ and EQ, at Inflection AI we believe strongly in giving users control of their data in a way that is aligned with our founding as a public benefit corporation. That’s why today, we are announcing a collaboration with the Data Transfer Initiative (DTI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering technology users to transfer data from one service to another. With DTI, we are pioneering what we hope will become an industry-wide practice to allow everyone to have control over their AI data and make it portable to any service you choose.

Starting today, you can export the conversations you have had with Pi, either for your own archive, to transfer to another LLM, or to import those conversations into Inflection AI’s upcoming enterprise product. To export your conversations with Pi, navigate to the “Manage History” page, and select export. The format of the export will be clear, documented, plain-text searchable, and free from restrictive licenses so it will be easy for you to use in the future. You’ll be able to import your data with any LLM that can support this, and we have built in secure digital signatures so that the LLM of your choosing can support with confidence in line with the interoperability framework defined in collaboration with DTI. You can also ask Pi how to export your data, and Pi will support you step-by-step.

We believe this is what is best for our users and for the health of the ecosystem. As more AI tools are created, we hope others in the industry will follow suit and data portability and empowerment become an industry standard. Inflection AI is the first LLM to allow you to own your own intelligence, and this is a commitment that will help guide everything we build in the future.

To that end, we also wanted to give you an update on where we’re heading next.

Following our update in March when we declared our plans to expand to the enterprise, many of you have asked what that means for the future of Pi.

While Pi was originally envisioned as a personal AI, it’s become increasingly apparent that people are finding the most value in using Pi to help them in their work. In the billions of conversations you’ve had with Pi, we’ve seen countless career questions answered, productivity tips shared, and vocabularies expanded with Pi’s word of the day. Over the last six months, we’ve increased our focus on bringing the power of Inflection AI to the enterprise, and this realization has only reinforced our conviction in this opportunity.

We’re still committed to keeping consumer Pi available and free for anyone to experience, however to continue building the best version of Inflection AI for the enterprise, we need to remain focused and steadfast in our vision. That means in the coming months we will begin to implement a cap on message volume for free users of Pi. This allows us to continue serving the vast majority of Pi users without diverting important resources from our forthcoming enterprise offering.

Looking forward, we are energized by bringing this technology to organizations to help them harness the transformative power of AI. AI tools in the workplace continue to evolve, but we are not building just tools for productivity and knowledge. We are bringing the emotional intelligence that Pi has, and you have loved, to the enterprise, to help you be a kinder and more empathetic teammate. And as we believe that you should continue to have access to your conversations with Pi, we believe enterprises should own their own intelligence and have control over their own systems and data. You’ll hear more from us soon.

If you have questions about exporting your conversations with Pi or the upcoming usage limits, you can ask Pi yourself.
